Disability Benefits Compensation & Pension

Disability Benefits Compensation & Pension

Part of our mission at the Adams County Veterans Affairs office is to assist you with the claims application process for two VA veteran benefit programs: Compensation and Pension.

Compensation:  Disability compensation is a monthly monetary tax-free benefit paid to veterans who are disabled by an injury or illness that was incurred or aggravated during active military service.  A disability can apply to physical conditions, such as a chronic knee pain condition as well as mental health conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  These disabilities are considered service connected.  If you have dependents, an additional allowance may be added if your combined disability is rated 30% or greater.

Pension:  Our office can also assist with applying for a Veterans or Survivors’ Pension. The VA can pay you a pension if you are a wartime veteran with limited income.  Veterans or surviving spouses who are eligible for VA pension and are housebound or require the aid and attendance of another person may be eligible for an additional monetary payment.  The benefit is based on financial need.
