Agricultural Security Areas (ASA)

Agricultural Security Areas (ASA)

Agricultural Security Areas (ASAs) are intended to promote more permanent and viable farming operations by strengthening the farming community's sense of security in land use and the right to farm. The ASA Program is a voluntary program administered by the PA Department of Agriculture's Bureau for Farmland Preservation. ASAs are created by the local government in cooperation with the individual landowners.

One of the prerequisites of preserving a farm through the County Agricultural Land Preservation Program, is having the land within an established ASA. The landowner begins this process by submitting an ASA form to their municipality. The Rural Resources Division may assist landowners with the ASA process.
