The Honorable Marty Karsteter Qually
Marty Karsteter Qually began his first term as an Adams County Commissioner in 2012. Prior to serving as a County Commissioner, Mr. Qually served as an Adams County Auditor and as an elected Gettysburg Borough Council member. Commissioner Qually’s successes in office have included, (1) working with community partners and Internet Service Providers to secure funding and expand affordable broadband access, (2) planned and obtained over $2 million dollars to create the first Adams County substance abuse recovery house, the Mercy House, (3) continues work with the @Home in Adams County initiative to improve public transportation, affordable housing, and workforce development and (4) advising the Chesapeake Bay Programs in the redrafting of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement. While infrastructure improvements and growth are critical to Adams County, clean water is critical for the current and future success of our agricultural and tourism economies. Economic success and ecological security are critical to retaining the high quality of life in Adams County.
Throughout his tenure Commissioner Qually has remained dedicated to the important principle of open and accessible government, fiscal responsibility, and putting the needs of residents above politics. Marty has served on many boards in Adams County, but tries to find time to attend many local organizations to receive updates and to remain accessible to public input.
Commissioner Qually received his education locally, attending Saint Francis Xavier School, Delone Catholic High School and Mount Saint Mary’s University. Marty Qually is a long-time Adams County resident, currently residing in Gettysburg with his wife Elizabeth Meighan, a couple of lazy cats, and a friendly, but loud, Great Dane, Jinx. All four of their children, Nick, Kate, Sam, and Lucien attended school in Adams County, have finished their formal education and have moved onto careers of their own.
